Promote, perform and maintain health by providing medical services under the responsibility and supervision of a physician. Perform diagnostic and therapeutic assessments and procedures in diagnosing medical and surgical problems and prescribe necessary treatment and services for quality patient care.
- Evaluate established patients in outpatient clinic. Initiate examinations, perform tests and procedures as indicated and approved by the supervising physician and document actions taken in the patient’s chart
- Order and schedule laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures as appropriate; explain the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to patient
- Follow discharged patients, perform post op wound care if needed and provide patients with the necessary care instructions. Provide items necessary for maintenance care including authorization to refill Rx prescription medications, nonprescription medications and home care supplies
- Respond to acute patient problems on a walk in basis and monitor patient’s response to prescribed treatments. Respond to queries from families and other care givers
- Coordinate office services provided with other office departments
- Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations
- Attend conferences and workshops to maintain licensure
- Maintain strict patient confidentiality and privacy in accordance with office policies and procedures and HIPAA privacy and security requirements, exercise utmost discretion in patient/staff interactions
- Take on-call responsibilities on an intermittent schedule. Refer to primary urologist on-call as needed
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Ability to obtain complete history and physical exams and apply the information obtained to a plan for patient care. Demonstrate proficiency in performing and evaluating results of in office tests. Knowledge of the principles and skills needed for patient care and treatment. Ability to assess patient care needs via the telephone by asking directed questions and reviewing chart data. Knowledge of examination, diagnostic and treatment room procedures. Knowledge of medications and drug interactions. Knowledge of common safety hazards, OSHA guidelines and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Skill in administering a variety of treatments and medications as directed. Skill in using various types of equipment for examination and treatment procedures. Skill in writing/dictating reports and maintaining accurate progress notes and medical records. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with our doctors, our patients and the public. Ability to maintain quality control standards in the back office lab. Ability to recognize problems and offer solutions. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to communicate clearly. Ability to multi-task. Computer literate with demonstrated knowledge of Windows operation systems and MS Office applications. Experience with electronic medical records desired. Excellent communication skills are essential.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Related field, completion of Physician Assistant program.
Experience: 1 year experience as a Physician Assistant in a clinical setting preferred.
Certificate/License: Licensed as a Physician Assistant eligible to practice in the state of Arizona.
Eligibility for or certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
